• Two Creekan-age wood in the southern Wisconsin

• Within ca. 1 km of the Schaefer Mastodon site

Local archaeologist Dave Wasion had worked on the excavation of the Hebior mammoth here in the 1990s and guided us to the site. The Paris farm site is located ca. 10 km west of the city of Kenosha and only 1.4 km south of the Bolton Farm. We found peat just 20-30 cm below the surface that had roots and small logs of spruce. Two dozen specimens were collected just south of the farm horse stables. A 121-year tree-ring width chronology was dated with radiocarbon ca. 13,390-13,670 Cal Yrs BP. Other wood is dated ca. 14, 090-14, 700 Cal Yrs BP.

Searching for forest bed at the horse farm.
