The discovery of a mastodon vertebra in Shelby Township, MI, by two 11 year old cousins unleashed a remarkable wave of interest in the media. If you Google Shelby Mastodon you will get at least 10 solid pages of links to hundreds of media outlets/newspapers ranging from Oregon to Vermont to Florida and areas in between, with intense coverage in Michigan – The Free Press had one of the best articles, which occupied more than half of the front page as the lead story, bumping down the Auto Show. National and international coverage included, USA Today, Times of Europe and CNN.This is another example of ubiquitous mastodon site.
