In June 2011, we gathered 6,000-8,000 yrs old cedar and elm wood from Myllyla's farm through a thread of intriguing circumstances. The Michigan Department of Transportation was dredging a pond on the farm of Dennis Myllyla near Arnheim, MI, when they encountered logs 15 feet below ground. With help of Forestry consultant Rex Janowiak a recent graduate of Michigan Technological University’s School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science, the news reached his former instructor - Dr. James Schmierer.
